Former Wipeout devs focusing on non-racing title
by Steve Watts, Jan 29, 2013 11:15am PSTLate last year Sony shut down Studio Liverpool, the studio behind the Wipeout series. Some key members have gone on to form a new studio called Sawfly, but don't expect it to revive the Wipeout spirit. Apparently its initial plans are for something entirely different.
"There are so many great racing franchises out there, but for one reason or another they just aren't selling as well as they used to," managing director Mike Humphrey told Gamasutra. "We still love racing games, but our focus is elsewhere right now."
The studio's first project, an unnamed game for publisher Ripstone, is nearly finished. The company is taking contract work as it pitches a new property. Whatever that new game is, it seems that market considerations taken another racing game off the table for the time being.
