Every time I look at CPU prices I think Intel has lost it. I paid $250 (or maybe $350?) for my P3-450 last summer, and it costs 315 for a 600 right now. I was expecting a much larger price drop.

Maybe I should think about a Celeron2 600 instead, and OC that thing to hell and back. I tried a friend's GeForce DDR in my PC this weekend instead of my TNT2U, and UT ran at basically the exact same speed, so a new video card is a dumb move.

Besides, it wouldn't really cripple AMD at all. I'd buy a 1 Ghz Athlon before a 1.7 Ghz, ultra-expensive Pentium4. Especially if it required RDRAM.

OMG, is it true, first question. I got a 700 athlon like during March of 2000, it was early for my 16th birthday and that, but a 1.7 GHZ processor, will it have 1.21 jiggawatts in it? Had to joke with that one guy when he said that, heheh. #44 is probabily right. I like my Athlon. I'll get a new pc when I'm 17, when about ready to turn 18.

Hehe..just for laughs...I ran Mechwarrior 1 this weekend on a P3-500 and it was freakin hilarious ... NO clock multiplier compensation .. so what was a slow mech walk when it was programmed (486-75 I guess??) was now about 1/2 a second of flashing frames and a static sound before it said "Mech outside limits". Now THAT'S fast gameplay!!

I hope to get it down to .1 second per game on my new P4!

Okay people, only one line there is capable of this? Can you see another one of intel's "chip releases" where it's actually "quantities limited", like the 1 Ghz P3 a few months back?

I wouldn't be surprised if AMD can just crank thunderbird's off their Dresden line (copper interconnects), stick a big heatsink and fan on them, and run them at 1.7 Ghz. I think AMD is holding back on us to maximize profit from moving through the lower Ghz ranges.

I cant see intel skipping over the whole 1.2ghz to 1.6 ghz range. Thats lost revenue. Of course, some would say that theyve skipped over the 1ghz mark (myself included) so maybe they'll just keep vapor announcing until 1.7... fricking intel just pisses me off to no end...
