Firefall first public beta weekend starts Friday

If you're looking for a new way to shoot faces this weekend, consider giving free-to-play shooter MMO Firefall a bash in its first proper public beta weekend. It's been running in a closed beta for a while, selling access and 'Founder' membership in tiers starting at $20, but all and sundry are allowed in over the weekend.

The beta will kick off at 10am PDT on Friday then run until 11:59pm PDT on Sunday, developer Red 5 announced. To get in, simply register an account. Don't think you'll go playing non-stop for 62 hours, oh no, as accounts are limited to 48 hours of play over the weekend. Just because.

Look, here's a new trailer showing off the joys of shooting man and beast:

I don't think you would say this if you saw the game in motion. It's gorgeous, one of the prettiest games I've seen.

            Did you keep playing?

There was some mission early on that I just couldn't get past; like the second thumper mission. I did it with groups where everyone else got credit but I was bugged =\

It's been awhile. Content was coming in too slow so figured it'd be best to give it some time and come back. I prefer MWO for the instance PvP rather than Firefall.

It's an awesome setting, amazingly beautiful, interesting game. I wish they had more solo stuff to do, but seriously, give it a try. It's a fair bit different from the typical MMO

I think like half the trailer got uploaded. It just cuts off during the action.

When you are playing it it feels more like Quake 3 in 3rd person with Tribes Jet packs.

Wonder how much more content they've added since I played and it pretty much capped out at thumper runs

Yeah, it's been a few months since I played. Last time they had some random incursions, but not many folks were exploring beyond the core city areas. Looks pretty good tho.

Yup, that's exactly how I felt. It was pretty and it was fun, it just didn't have enough content to really keep me interested. And then I guess MWO happened and I was pretty much done.

They're concentrating on making collaborative world events, not so much solo content. So when there aren't a lot of people, especially friends, it's pretty empty feeling. It should be interesting when it launches though.

I had an assault frame and worked my way through to the level 2 frame, my guy felt infinitely weaker and I stopped playing, because I felt robbed...
