Dead Space 3 to include microtransactions
by Steve Watts, Jan 22, 2013 6:50am PSTVideo games have been seeking out new revenue streams, giving birth to the microtransaction model. EA has been forging ahead in this regard, including hooks in games like Mass Effect 3 and the Madden series. Dead Space 3 will be also getting its own form of microtransactions, to shave off time for impatient weapon crafters.
Eurogamer reports that the resources needed for weapon crafting, such as material and scrap parts, can be obtained through a few different methods. You could pick up the parts directly in the game, scavenger bots can be sent out to gather in-game currency to buy the parts, or you can use real money to buy in-game currency packs as a shortcut.
Associate producer Yara Khoury said that several packs of the in-game currency will be available to purchase at varying amounts, but you won't be able to buy your way to the best gun right from the start. "There are a lot of weapon parts that are only available to buy later in the game," she said. "Unless you're playing through it again [on New Game Plus]."
Xbox One allows players to auto-resume games through cloud

In the time I've played both Tribes Ascend and PS 2 I never unlocked a single weapon. They may as well have not been in the game for me.
