Puzzle-RPG hybrid Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes is coming to iOS devices this month, for much cheaper than it appeared on other platforms. The HD version of the game that was ported to PC and consoles in 2011 will pretty up your Retina display on January 24 for $4.99.

The match-3 game has you forming up similar unit types to make ranks of soldiers who will then charge to an equally stacked opposing force. If you've played Capybara's equally charming Critter Crunch, imagine that with elves and magic. The game's HD conversion received a positive reception, and five bucks is a good deal less expensive than the other HD versions of the game, even if Joystiq reports that its current state has a pre-release bug or two. An Android version will follow, but no date has been set.

Fantasy themed match-3 game where you match the units and then they attack the other person's units. It's pretty fun.

It's like a weird mash-up of turn-based strategy and match-3 gameplay. Each battle consists of you (and your opponent) using the troops you have to match 3-in-a-row. When you match them vertically, they link together and begin charging an attack, when you match 3 horizontally, they link up and form a wall. There's more to it than that, like dealing with how long attacks take to charge, making sure you beat down enemies that are charging with your own dudes (or hit them before they link up), using heroes (special dudes that do way more damage but are limited), linking your attacks so that multiple ones go off in a single turn (dealing extra damage), and some other stuff.

There's some basic RPG stuff too, where your character and units gain XP leading to stat boosts, and you find artifacts that let you equip a unique effect.

Played this crazy amounts on DS, which I no longer have. Will buy again on iOS (I think its gameplay is more suited to portable gaming)
