3dfx Interviews
by Maarten Goldstein, Jul 08, 2000 10:34am PDTSavage News has an interview with 3dfx's Alf Covey, talking about how the V5 5500 has done so far. Fool's messageboard has a short interview with David Zacarias, talking about the Rampage card. Very little is reveiled about that one. Thanks VE.

But the fact is that FSAA is still a fairly pointless gimmick. When you can run a game in FSAA with NO PERFORMANCE HIT, then i might be more interested, but at the moment 1024 and above in 32bit color is the way to go.
Any serious gamer will tell you that they do not use FSAA, because the performance loss is just not acceptable.

I love 3dfx
Someone try and give me one valid reason why anyone would want a voodoo 5 over a Geforce 2?

What are thoes guys in the 3dfx PR dep. smoking? Just look at http://www5.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/reviews/video/3dfx_v5_5500/5.shtml and you'll see that even the hardware T&L on the Geforce 256 outpaces the T&L on both a Pentium3 800 and an Athlon 800, both of which are still pretty close to the top-of-line as far as perforance. The fact that they feel the need to say this kind of bs in every pointless interview they give says something about just how low 3dfx has sunk in the past couple of years.

PC Gamer sez, Quake 3. 1024x768, 32 bit color. A GeForce2 and Voodoo5 5500 give within a frame of each other.
So there. No one wins. Shove it up your butt, remove it, and smoke it.
FSAA is a gimmick, no one in thier right mind would run a game in 640 with FSAA and 16bit when they could run it in 1024 with no FSAA and 32bit and still run a hell of a lot quicker.
Of course you 3dfx fanboys have only just GOT 32bit colour.
I had a voodoo1, 2 and 3 and I have have moved onto nVidia and I will not be looking back. I doubt you have even used an nVidia card newer than a TNT.

Texture detail further away is lost with FSAA, and the fact that you have to use FSAA in lower resolutions means the image is not as sharp or crisp as a 1024 image PERIOD, jackass.
