Capcom has sharply revised its earnings forecast for the fiscal year ending in March. Net sales are expected to be 11% less than previously expected, while operating income is expected to drop over 36 percent. The reason? "Sales of the major new title Resident Evil 6 were initially strong, but subsequently weakened," Capcom explained to investors.

"As a result, sales for this title are certain to fall short of the plan," the report continues. In addition to Resident Evil 6's lackluster performance, the delay of Monster Hunter 4 in Japan will also impact Capcom's overall outlook.

Resident Evil 6 launched strong, hitting the second place position in the October NPDs. Capcom shipped 4.5 million copies of the game, expecting mass market appeal with the latest sequel. However, disappointing reviews from critics and fans alike may have stunted the game's momentum.

I hope these numbers force Capcom to reevaulate the series' direction. I want an action-survival horror game, like RE4. Not like RE5. Not like RE6. But RE4, a game that includes plenty of action tempered with environments designed for strategic combat and ammo conservation, and a bleak atmosphere that grows tighter over the course of the game.

I had high hopes for RE6. I liked the idea of four campaigns each with a unique flavor of gameplay and storytelling. But the idea didn't pan out. Each campaign invariably devolved into wild gunfights. It was as if Capcom didn't believe players could handle slow and steady pacing and just had to throw wild helicopter rides and motorcycle chases into the mix. Jake's campaign, for example, started out excellent. I enjoy inching through levels, picking off not-zombies, and evading the Ustaanak, also known as Nemesis 2.0.

The next minute I'm on a snowmobile racing down a mountain while an avalanche crashes down behind and around me, then I'm blasting my way through some foreign stronghold and evading a tank that barreled through the wall.

I think having two poorly received RE games (RE6 and RE:ORC) back to back will have Capcom go back to the drawing board. I wouldn't be surprised if they flat-out reboot the franchise for next-gen.

I thought RE6 was one of the better selling releases in Japan but it bombed everywhere else.

At least Re: Revelations was good even if it didn't light up the sales charts.

Much prefer they actually made it into survival horror again. Not like RE4, not like RE5, not like most of RE6.

Aside from returning characters, the latest entries are so far off from the original releases in the series that I wish they simply left the "Resident Evil" name out of the title.

The name "Resident Evil" sucks anyway. They should have kept the original name. Biohazard.

I'm always leery of any product with a "6" after it's title. I think it's time to reboot the franchise

Haven't they already done that? I mean, it's not about zombies and Umbrella anymore, is it?

good, the series has seemed to lack any real creative direction and just cribs from popular games in whatever way they think will make RE more popular, instead of finding a good core of their own to suck people in

I had made a posy early this morning that didnt see the eyes of many, but this game is soooo much better with the camera patch that came out Monday. Its amazing what a difference simply being able to see can do. I have a feeling the game would have sold a lot better had this been available Day 1

Good! Maybe it will motivate them to get their heads out of their asses and make a real Resident Evil Survival Horror game again!
