In case you missed the news at the VGAs, Naughty Dog's The Last of Us will be hitting PS3 on May 7th. And, as part of its membership of the AAA video game club, it needs to be bundled with pre-order bonuses. Reservations at "participating retailers" will entitle you to the "Sights and Sounds Pack," which includes the game's official soundtrack, a PS3 dynamic theme featuring the box art (pictured above), and two PSN avatars.

Pre-ordering at GameStop will net you the aforementioned bonus as well as the "Survival Pack," which includes bonuses for the game's not-yet-revealed multiplayer mode. You'll get bonus XP, a melee attack booster, in-game cash, and special skins for multiplayer and single-player.

Here's the brand new trailer from the VGAs, in case you missed it:

Sometimes a customer's $60 is just not enough for publishers.

        This is pre-order, not a collector's edition.

I bet I'm going to regret asking this, but how exactly does your point stand? These being pre-order bonuses mean that the publisher is still only getting the customer's $60, so there's no evidence here that "sometimes a customer's $60 is just not enough for publishers." That statement may be true, but evidence for it is not in this article.

You guys should read this: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/11/14/editorial-the-pre-order-heist/
"A huge part of it is about duping customers into committing their money before they can be put off. During the build up to a game it’s all hype. Trailers, screenshots, big campaigns. And the coverage at this point is non-critical, because there’s nothing to be sensibly criticised. ...

Take a look at Medal Of Honor: Warfighter. EA had no reason to believe this would be the game where the rest of the games writing industry finally woke up and realised what a tiresome mess it and all its many cousins are. I’m quite certain they were banking on its being a big Autumn hit for them. And then it received a worldwide panning, with the lowest mark most major sites and mags seem to be able to use – 5 – all over the place. Its Metacritic score has settled at an average of 54. You can bet your bum they were grateful for every pre-order that came in, every person who invested their cash long before they could be warned."

This is why I never pre-order.

They also lock SP content that is kinda essential to the main game behind preorder bonuses. ME3's Javik added a ton of context to the game

This is common sense for any product on launch.

I took the same risk when I bought my WiiU on launch day, thankfully I do not regret it in the least.

Every product has a chance of being terrible despite marketing hype.

Also you can always cancel your pre-order. See that the reviews are bad? Cancel your pre-order and get your money back or move it to another game. If you're ordering online like amazon, return the game unopened. The only way you get fucked is if you pre-order a game online through like Steam or Origin and the release day has already come.

Looks like a great game, can't say that I'm interested in the Multiplayer though.

Obvious troll is obvious.. 'Story trailer' .. Besides, it hasn't been advertised as a Multiplayer game anyway. I imagine it would play just like Uncharted's MP which didn't do anything for me.

This game might finally break me down and force me to get a PS3. Then I'll be forced to go back and play all those PS3 exclusives I've longed for... and then I'll have another stack of games it takes me 2 years to get to.
