Developers are likely hard at work on games for the next generation of consoles, and Ubisoft may have had one of its current projects outed. According to an online resume and material from the company, Ubisoft Massive is at work on a "AAA Next-Gen Online RPG." The studio most recently wrapped up work on Far Cry 3, as part of a multi-studio effort.

Both the LinkedIn profile of Ubisoft Massive game designer Marc Cartwright and current job listings (via OXM) mention the project, though neither sheds much light on what exactly the RPG might be. The studio is aiming to create "the best gameplay experiences ever conceived. For any game. Ever." While most recruiting efforts involve a bit of hyperbole, that's certainly one of the boldest statements we've ever seen.

Massive worked on the co-op mode in FC3 so take this news how you will.

:( I guess I should not complain we just got FC3 and it owns, but I just feel MMO are just such a waste I rather they put the effort into another none MMO game.

They didn't say MMO, next-gen means on consoles and it would just be a co-op thing.

It doesn't particularly say MMO, just "online-RPG", it's possible they mean small group co-op instead of the typical fair but we really have no details at this point.

So FC3 open world multiplayer with players playing the heroes and villains?

I don't think anyone will say "MMO" anymore, after 38 Studios' crash, and SW:TOR's miserable first year. It was probably best said in the 5-29-2012 Bombcast, after 38 Studios laid off all staff:

Ryan: "The time has passed for this industry to sit down and take a hard, goddamned look at what we define as an MMO, and what that means, and what, if anything, is still appealing about that."

Jeff: "...at what point do they just stop using the term 'MMO' because it comes with so much baggage, that it just creates that negative connotation right away?"

          Alex: "Probably NOW."

I feel like they could just take the tools, assets and environment from FC3 and use it to make more one-off mission structures, systems and skills and it would be a great 12 month installment before next gen.

Whenever I hear or read anything that resembles The studio is aiming to create "the best gameplay experiences ever conceived, I immediately lose all interest.
