Skyrim's 'Dragonborn' taking precedence over previous DLC on PS3
by Steve Watts, Dec 06, 2012 9:35am PSTIf you were unlucky enough to pick the PlayStation 3 as your platform of choice for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, your hopes for extra content have been as cold and barren as Skyrim itself. The Xbox 360 has been first to the party due to exclusivity arrangements, and the PC has the mod scene to keep it occupied while it waits, but Bethesda has had serious setbacks on PS3. The company has announced that it is putting aside the PS3 releases of Dawnguard and Hearthfire for the time being to focus on the latest expansion, Dragonborn.
Following the announcement that Dragonborn is due for PC and PlayStation 3 early next year, the Bethesda Blog noted that means a shift in focus. "On PS3 in particular, we turned our attention to Dragonborn, as we thought it was the best content to release first, and we didn’t want folks to wait longer," the blog states. "Once it's ready to go for everyone, we'll continue our previous work on Hearthfire and Dawnguard for PS3. Each one takes a lot of time and attention to work well in all circumstances and all combinations of DLC."
Bethesda has suffered technical issues that has stymied their efforts to put the Dawnguard content on PS3, and has enlisted the help of Sony to get it working.
Dragonborn involves you, the current title holder, squaring off against a previous Dovahkiin who has been messing with the world from beyond the grave. The blog also notes that it has more content planned for next year, implying that Dragonborn isn't the last we'll hear from Skyrim.
