by Andrew Yoon, Nov 21, 2012 11:00am PSTJust in time to confirm your Thanksgiving weekend, Garnett Lee, Jeff Cannata, and Andrew Yoon are joined by Sony Santa Monica's Ariel Angelotti and Seth Killian. Our guests talk up their newly released game, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, and offer some revealing insights on how the game was made. Fighting guru Seth explains his love for smash-type games, and explains exactly why fighting games should be excited for PlayStation's brawling mash-up. Then, Andrew talks about his lengthy hands-on with Wii U, and explains how he's warming up to Nintendo's unique GamePad. We throw in some football and some Last Story in there as well, so grab some stuffing and listen to this holiday Weekend Confirmed.

How is it that we've allowed the phrase "lazy developers" into the gaming community's lexicon? Any message board or forum is filled with people casually discounting games due to "sloppy cut and paste programming" and "lazy development".
From what I understand, working more than 40 hours a week is standard in the games industry, and ungodly work hours come around during crunch time. I think it's absolutely unacceptable to allow anyone to call these people lazy. You can say that their finished product wasn't effective, or wasn't right for you, or even showed signs of a lack of a budget, but please let's not call them lazy.

I really think the blame for all of this should be put onto the publisher, but I do think it is simply awful how games get put out incomplete and broken. Should the people involved get a pass just because they are developers? I think not.
I would hope any developer that gets called lazy needs to think about how they acted during development. Did they speak up about what they thought wasn't working, or did they just keep their nose down and toil away on their little piece of the game? If they did, that is lazy to me. It's not a slothful lazy, and maybe cowardly is a better term, but no matter- they deserve to be disparaged.
