Weekend Confirmed 140 - PlayStation All-Stars, Wii U
by Andrew Yoon, Nov 21, 2012 11:00am PSTJust in time to confirm your Thanksgiving weekend, Garnett Lee, Jeff Cannata, and Andrew Yoon are joined by Sony Santa Monica's Ariel Angelotti and Seth Killian. Our guests talk up their newly released game, PlayStation All-Stars: Battle Royale, and offer some revealing insights on how the game was made. Fighting guru Seth explains his love for smash-type games, and explains exactly why fighting games should be excited for PlayStation's brawling mash-up. Then, Andrew talks about his lengthy hands-on with Wii U, and explains how he's warming up to Nintendo's unique GamePad. We throw in some football and some Last Story in there as well, so grab some stuffing and listen to this holiday Weekend Confirmed.

Comments
On Andrea's sort of canned defense of the WiiU, I think there are 2 major issues: 1. The price advantage that the Wii had will no longer exist, and 2. The sudden weakness of Nintendo's first party offerings. Now on 2, I'm glad to heard NSMB is more than a watered down version of the classic 2D Marios, but at the same time---it is still just a 2D Mario game. From a monetary/value stand point, its hard to look at a console designed to process 3D graphics, and think 2D sprites make for a valid reason to purchase.
For me, I'm not going to be convinced to buy a WiiU without a fairly dramatic shift in Nintendo's commitment towards modern HD gaming. To me the Wii did not prove that they're such innovative game designers. It proved that they can exploit laymen audiences to create a new market for their products. It is great for their business, but it isn't so great for me as a gamer.
