Skyrim's Dragonborn has you hunt the very first one

Bethesda has shared new screenshots and details about the story and new powers available in the upcoming "Dragonborn" DLC for Skyrim.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is preparing its next bit of downloadable content, titled Dragonborn. Bethesda shed a little more light on the name and the content today, with a handful of screenshots a few details on what exactly you'll be doing when you take up the mantle again. The new content focuses on the return of the first Dragonborn. You'll leave Skyrim altogether and travel to the island of Solstheim in your quest to find and, presumably, kill your older counterpart. As The Highlander has taught us, when it comes to unspeakable power, there can be only one. Solstheim is home to Dark Elves and native Skaal peoples. Since the story revolves around the Dragonborn, many of the new features do too. You'll get new Shouts, Spells, a new Daedric realm to explore, and new paths for skills and abilities. One Shout, the Dragon Aspect, makes you considerably more powerful and can strengthen other shouts as well. You can use these abilities to dispatch new Ash Spawn and Riekling enemies. The DLC will also offer new equipment, like Bonemold and Chitin armors, and Stalhrim weapons. The Dragonborn DLC is set to hit Xbox 360 on December 4 for $20 (1600 MSP). Now that the Microsoft exclusivity arrangement is over, it might hit other platforms near that date as well. Be sure to check out all 12 new screens.

      Last screenshot looks like some Fallout 3 Power Armor in front of a Morrowind-style hut. Dig it.

        I don't think it's confirmed but dragon mounts were one of the mods the developers mentioned creating during that game jam thing a while ago. I don't see why they wouldn't include that.

          I could imagine it being difficult from a technical perspective on consoles if it significantly changes the draw distance and speed with which new areas of the world need to be loaded in

      I'm mostly excited for the new environment art. I never played Bloodmoon... but it seems like Solstheim is kind of a mix of Skyrim and Morrowind in style.

        Bloodmoon was more like Skyrim. But it looks like it got partially jacked up when the volcano blew.

        Bloodmoon made me cry because the snow destroyed my computer so I couldn't play that expansion :(

      I don't know why Bethesda isn't churning out more DLC like this, and so late in the game's life. I was ready to pay for a half dozen more expansions like Dawnguard mere months after the base game came out. This Dragonborn pack looks meatier than Dawnguard and the sort of DLC players are really after. Bethesda should be churning out DLC. They're leaving money on the table. I mostly plat multiplayer games but Skyrim is on track to overtake the number of hours I have poured into CounterStrike. Bethesda's open world games are that good but we need more content.

        - Making DLC takes time. Especially quality DLC in a detailed open-world game.
        - Skyrim is the kind of game that people come back to, so they're probably not losing out on much.
        - Spreading DLC out enhances the "long tail" of sales that BethSoft RPGs already do great with.

        Plus the rest of the team is working on Fallout 4 conceptually for next gen, which is a lot of work.

        Typically big DLC packs that get churned out early are either already content-complete at launch just waiting final polish, or were even more cynically excised out of complete+polished launch content in order to make a DLC buck. The best (most charitable) that can be said is that that DLC content was already in the pipeline.

        From what we've seen out of Bethesda, these DLC packs were built around concepts that were created from an internal hackathon they did after the game itself was already done, and so the actual assets, etc. probably were not in the pipeline until after Skyrim itself released.

      If it's got Morrowind elements, I just might have to actually play Skyrim just to prepare for this...
