Why the next Crysis won't be called 'Crysis 4'

Crytek is considering its next steps for the Crysis series after the upcoming Crysis 3, but says it will be a longer-term project due to attempting a more radical shift.

Crysis 3 is helping the "games with bows" initiative that's rocking the country, but Crytek doesn't plan to stop there. The company is already planning for the future of the franchise, and the next game won't be "Crysis 4" in name or spirit.

"[Crysis 3] is the end of the story of Crysis, but it doesn't mean it's the end of the franchise," Crytek's Cevat Yerli told Eurogamer. We are finalizing the story arc of Prophet and concluding in a dramatic way. But we are excited about the DNA of Crysis and of the franchise." The game isn't in pre-production yet, but Yerli says that's because the team wants to look at it more long-term and make a more "radical" shift.

The game doesn't have a publisher or a business model set. Yerli has previously declared the company would switch to a free-to-play model, but says this game might be a hybrid between a retail game and F2P. Still, he's insistent that the model is the 'inevitable future' for the industry, and says that a plan is in place for a F2P version of Crysis. "How this looks and when this will be done, whether this is the next one or the next next one, is to be decided," he said.

It doesn't even have a name, but we know what it won't be called. "I wouldn't name it Crysis 4 at this stage because it would be misleading," Yerli said. "We want to finalize Prophet's story and Crysis 4 would imply the story just moves on."

Well it looks like they're actually marketing this game unlike Crysis 2, which was one of the most underrated games of 2011. I'm really, really impressed with the Crysis 3 MP Alpha. So I'm hoping this thing sells well and keeps the franchise going. The more devs that push hardware capabilities the better.

I agree that C2 was underrated, but the PC version was half baked at launch and that seems to have burned a fair bit of goodwill with the community.

Hopefully all features and settings will be ready on day one this time.

If Crysis 2 was one of the most underrated games of 2011 then Crysis 1 must be the most under rated product in the history of consumerism.

Crysis 1 was actually fun, I just couldn't get into Crysis 2.
Crysis 1 is one of the few games I've played through multiple times.

Crysis 1 was great...never played Crysis 2 as I just didn't get the switch to the city. I wanted a direct continuation from Crysis 1, I wanted to see what happened to Prophet when he went into the sphere.

Also, where was Nomad in Crysis 2?

^^^This. I still replay Crysis a couple of times a year since release where, I haven't touch Crysis 2 since a couple of months after it launched. Just wasn't as good as the original.

That said, I do think that the usability improvements of the suit were pretty nice...

Although I'm also conflicted because I felt like using the suit in Crysis 1 actually made me feel like I was skilled.

The suit is flat out cooler in Crysis 1. You zoom between different modes and can actually perform skilled maneuvers.

Crysis 2 was underrated because it deserved it.

havent looked a lot into Crysis 3, but are the suit powers going to return to more like 1 or still be more like 2?
