Report: Microsoft building 'Surface' gaming tablet
by Steve Watts, Nov 06, 2012 1:00pm PSTMicrosoft is reportedly working on its own 7-inch gaming tablet, using the "Surface" brand. According to unnamed sources, the device has entered the development stages for final implementation.
The Verge reports that according to the leaked specs, the tablet would include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM made specifically for gaming. It would also run its own customized Windows kernel rather than a full version of Windows. The tablet could potentially support other functions like messaging, in addition to its primary gaming functions.
The report goes on to speculate that the Surface tablet could debut before Microsoft's next-generation console, which is widely expected to be announced next year.
