**** ASSASSINS CREED 3 SPOILERS ****

Regarding the "plot twist" at the end of the first act:
The discovery that I'd spent the entire first act playing the side of the Templars was powerful. It was the first moment AC3 really "got my attention". But I think Ubisoft destroyed the power of that moment very shortly afterwards.
The reason the reveal comes as such a surprise is because your character and his allies have not been acting like Templars. They have been acting like kind, honest, decent people. At first, I thought Ubisoft was doing something very interesting, and introducing us to a side of the Templars we had never seen before.
But then I saw that it was just shitty storytelling.
The moment you take control of Connor and come face to face with the "friendly Templars", they behave in the complete opposite manner as they did in the previous segment. That is to say they behave the way we've always expected Templars to act.
So it turns out Ubisoft was just lying to the audience during the first segment. They made these characters act noble so that we'd make certain assumptions, then as soon as the truth was revealed, they transform these characters into completely different people that fit their new role in the story. Pretty lame :-/
