As someone who doesn't care about the language the other people want to throw at me across the internet I find this troubling and a slippery slope.

Every culture has it's own norms, languages, accepted behaviors, etc.
To those outside the culture, these norms and behaviors seem odd and even offensive.
However, just as I think most would frown on the notion of the US marching in a country like, say, Saudi Arabia and saying 'Get rid of your government, customs, social norms, and accepted behaviors, we don't like them and they make us uncomfortable' it is not the place of a new gaming audience (women, in this case), to come into an established gaming culture and say "I am uncomfortable with the way things are. Change them to appease me and my ilk."
You can personally and philosophically be against the undercurrent of misogyny seen in online gaming circles. You can also personally and philosophically be against the misogynist practices that many of the cultures around the world partake in. That does not give those cultures that frown on it the authority to move in and change it. Change will happen from within, or it won't happen.
