Shack PSA: Steam Halloween sale launches

Prepare to scream, gentle reader. No, that's not an army of draculas you hear on the horizon, it's the deafening roar of people of people excited about Steam's Halloween sale launching today. While this isn't the biggest or bestest sale Steam has ever held, it's certainly solid and includes some top games going cheap.

The big full list of ghoulish games is this-a-way, but here a few which caught my eye (which is hanging out of my face from the optic nerve):

Bonus feature: Boo!

Gamersgate, GameStop PC App, Origin have Halloween sales for PC downloads currently going on, as well.

Oh, and Dark Souls: PTD Edition is $19.90 on Amazon PC downloads.

Yeah, but you have to buy it from GFWLive.

I bought the game from Steam and the expansion from GFWL.

I was super into it for a few levels and it plays great with a controller, but it just started to drag out. Never finished it.

The design and play style is great, but the levels are far far far far too long. What should have been a tight 4 hr game ends up being like 10 hr.

It didn't launch as a budget title, not sure how a tight 4hrs. wouldhhave worked. I'd have been pissed.

That is true. But I'd rather have had varied levels than levels that ran 2-3 times beyond the point where it was "Ok, I get it!" feelings

I'd agree with this completely. The levels just went on and on forever.

I liked it a lot, but style and mood alone can do a lot for me. Also, a controller is a must.

Any opinions on I Am Alive? I really want to try this game out but if its a shitty PC port I'll wait till its cheaper

Played it on Xbox... I thought it had a great atmosphere/look and some good player mechanics. Although it was quite linear. You can see this huge open city, but there are cars/debris everywhere preventing you from going to anything that isn't exactly where the game makes you. Also, the "combat" was meh at best.

I didn't finish it because of being SO linear and the repetitive combat. So maybe it opened up more and i missed out... but it didn't seem like it was going to.

I got the PC port on Steam right when it came out and it was a clusterfuck. It wouldn't even start without playing with the config files and the 360 controller didn't work right either. None of the keymaps matched what was set in the game and you couldn't even move. Worse game I've ever bought on Steam. I never even got to get beyond the first spot you spawn in on the first level.

Interesting, I just now noticed Ghostbusters (the 2009 game) isn't on Steam anymore. That Sanctum of Slime thing is but the 2009 game isn't. Must be some rights issue, like with Quake Wars

Fallout 3 on the PC is extremely tempting.

If you haven't played either, New Vegas is the much better game IMO. Especially if you were a fan of the older games, NV isn't just a big re-tread of the FO1-2 themes like 3 is. Obsidian's writing for story and characters is far superior, one thing they always do right.

Having come out later, it also has other combat tweaks that I think generally improve the game too, like bringing back the Damage Threshold system and Perks being more balanced/worthwhile.

I liked the first Fallout 3 better. Probably because I was pretty bummed about the direction that our government has been heading: it was a great tonic to me to see Washington, DC all trashed up that way.

Atom Zombie Smasher was a lot of fun, a cross between strategy, tower defense, and choplifter. Simple yet very addictive indie game.

I have heard almost nothing good about it other than it being a solid premise. The execution sounds almost unplayable, from what I've read the puzzles require you to be about as insane as the character may eventually be.

Tempting...but the Black Friday and Christmas sales will be much better. Most of the games in there have been cheaper before :(
