Let me just say that I agree with a lot of people that there's a lot of worrysome behaviour in games journalism and I agree with what the Eurogamer article says about the worries of games journalism and the need for more separation between PR and journalsim.
But why is that pic so horribly offensive? What is he doing in that photo? Am I missing some context? He looks kinda uncomfortable sitting there. He looks like he might have been causally snapped while sitting for a second. Or was he promoting the products? I don't know. Until I know the context of that photo I can't think anything good or bad about Geoff Keighly, he's just ... sitting there, unaware, being a conduit of huge controversy.

So that's the source of the controversy. People are certainly gathering in numbers with pitch forks and torches over this one. I don't know how I feel about this personally, but I'll digest it all first before I get swept up by the mob.
My preliminary thoughts are that it feels a bit blown out of proportion, but like Batman, maybe this is the controversy gaming press doesn't deserve, but it's it's the controversy it needs. Games journalism could be SO much more. From the mindnumbingly questionable posts at Kotaku, drenched in poor spelling/grammar to the biased coverage of other mainstream sights, things need to change. I respect people like Garnett, John Davison and Patrick Klepek to name just a few. Like all joirnalism, there are articulate statesmen of the profession with integrity and interesting views that seem drowned by the mainstream safe predictable coverage. Of course I wanna see more of the people I enjoy.
As it is now the bulk of games journalism I consume is podcasts because I feel more plugged into the raw opinions and emotions people which I find more valuable. The rest of the news I get from tweets, YouTube, gaming sites etc.
