Medal of Honor Warfighter day 1 patch is massive

There are plenty of games that get patched on release day, but most involve minor fixes and tweaks. Not so with Medal of Honor Warfighter, which hit shelves today. Electronic Arts released a must-install-immediately patch for the game that rivals the fixes in some major content updates.

There are plenty of games that get patched on release day, but most involve minor fixes and tweaks. Not so with Medal of Honor Warfighter, which hit shelves today. Electronic Arts released a must-install-immediately patch for the game that rivals the fixes in some major content updates.

The patch, which covers both consoles and PC, has modifications to everything from the interface to matchmaking to gameplay. There is even one fix that makes sure controls continue to respond in single-player mode. There are also changes specific to each platform. Rest assured, though, that not everything on the list addresses a bug. Two new features were added and the game was got a new coat of "visual polish."

While making a release date is important, dumping an obviously unfinished game on the market with an "oh by the way, you need this, too" patch of this magnitude surely stretches the limits of gamer goodwill. But EA offered up this new launch trailer to help you regain some measure of enthusiasm for the game.

For an almost 2 gig update they should have pushed the game back and released it later. It's not like ISP give people unlimited downloading these days and this is far beyond expectable for only being an update and not adding and level maps or major features.

And what about people with consoles not connected to the internet?

Pray that your controls don't freeze.

It is an unfortunate side effect of "almost-always-connected" platforms, combined with pressure to hit release dates: "Eh, we can patch it later." It's to the point where hard drive firmware quality is slipping, since there's little to no consideration for always-offline customers.

Wasn't aware this was out today!! I loved Medal of Honor, especially the mission where the team is pretty much ambushed, emotional music plays, and rescue arrives at just the last second. Hoping for more in Warfighter! :)

Don't know where you're getting 1.7GB from, it looks like only ~200MB to me.

Yes, that is what I saw, too. On the Giantbomb QuickLook of the 360 version they showed the patch process, it downloaded a 58MB patch file. You can however install a 1.7GB texture pack to your hard drive to get high-res textures. That pack is on the Multiplayerdisc and does not need to be downloaded. It is the same thing they did with Battlefield last year.

Honestly, this if pretty fucking pathetic, and pretty much what's wrong with the gaming industry today, that they ship out a broken game that has to be patched on day one!

Was there even an open beta,or even a closed one for that matter? Good fucking grief!

Yes, there was an open MP-Beta, and the game felt really rough.

I got the game but damn if I wont wait to play it until the 2nd or possibly 3rd patch. I have a pretty bad ass PC rig that plays BF3 all cranked up to 11 and MOHW stutters like a stuttering stutterer. The control stuttering is completely unacceptable. The graphics hitching is also unacceptable. The game needs work badly.
