Ubisoft has officially announced a production company for the Assassin's Creed movie, and is currently fast-tracking a screenplay to get the film off to a running start. The company is partnering with New Regency, a studio known recently for Knight & Day and the Alvin and the Chipmunks movies.

The announcement claims that Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the company's new film-oriented wing, will maintain control over the direction of the film. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed in the announcement, but considering the success of the franchise and the attachment of high-profile actor Michael Fassbender, the arrangement couldn't have been cheap.

"Ubisoft chose to partner with New Regency because they are a talent- and filmmaker-driven company, with the same independent and creative mindset that we have at Ubisoft Motion Pictures," UMP CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet, in the announcement "Bringing aboard New Regency's renowned production and distribution expertise while maintaining our own creative and financial flexibility ensures that Assassin's Creed will be a high-quality film that respects the lore and fans of the video game franchise."
