Aveline, hero of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation, intrigues us. Not only because she's the franchise's first female assassin--but because she can assume many different roles to blend into society.

Born from a French father and an African mother, Aveline is able to take advantage of her mixed race heritage to blend into all facets of historic Louisiana society. That's the basis of the game's "Persona System," which Ubisoft details in this brand new trailer.

Players will be able to switch between three Personas: the Slave, the Lady, and the Assassin. When dressed as a commoner, you'll be able to blend in with slaves and other works. "As such, she can quickly fade into the background by simply picking up a crate," the PlayStation.Blog explains. "Aveline can also call on her fellow workers for aid and incite them to cause public disturbances on her behalf." While as a Slave, she will not be able to carry her usual weapons, however.

As a lady, Aveline will have access to locales reserved for high society. Because you'll be able to charm or bribe certain individuals, you'll have new opportunities for assassination. Unfortunately, while you'd think there's plenty of room to hide weapons in her dress, your arsenal is limited in this mode.

Finally, assassins will grant you to the widest variety of weapons and tools. Unfortunately, "the Assassin persona has a tendency to stick out like a sore thumb in most social situations." Whoops.

Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation will be available exclusively on PS Vita on October 30th.

I got batman on the PS3 for the exclusive joker content but I grow weary of chasing down what goes with what, what DLC is preannounced for preorder for preexclusives, etc etc etc. everything is so compartmentalized it's incredibly confusing.

Congrats to the games industry who have turned what used to be an exciting moment (the release of a hotly anticipated new game) into a chore to figure out which version to buy at which store with the knowledge that no matter what your choice you'll be missing out on something, and of course you have no idea whether or not you'll even care because much of the DLC might suck. And then some DLC (ala Prothean in ME3) could have a serious impact on your experience with the game.

(And let's not forget the great out-of-the-box experience that every kid loves: typing in a bunch of long alpha-numeric codes using your controller to get that sweet exclusive content. I almost look back with fondness on code wheels.)

Oh Dick Tracy... That was some piracy protection. Wow, that also just brought back memories of "please enter the 1st word on the 5th page, 2nd paragraph." Oo.... that also screwed used game sales too if you lost the instructions!
