On October 23rd, Sony will launch the brand new PlayStation Store experience for PS3. Not only is it prettier, but it promises to offer far more functionality. For example, the new store will finally let you see all the add-on content for specific titles. In addition, the new experience merges both the Video and Game stores, so you'll be able to buy Milla Jovovich's Resident Evil and Resident Evil 6 at the same time.

Hopefully, the launch will go more smoothly than in Europe, where numerous glitches forced Sony to revert back to the old version of the store. Sony's Eric Lempel says that because the store was built in HTML5, the company will be able to "add features quickly without major overhauls or updates." So while the new store at launch won't have a redesigned Download List, an update should be forthcoming.

Oddly, the redesign is currently only slated for PS3, in spite of the fact it looks designed for a touch interface. (Look at the swiping motion!) Here it is in action:

I think the store redesign looks awesome. It looks like filtering to look at just games is still an option if you want, which I appreciate. The only thing I saw that I'm not a fan of is something the Xbox also has, which is the scrolling alphabet select. We'll see how well this smart search he was talking about works, but it always takes so much longer to have to scroll one row as opposed to three.

Looks the same thing to me just moved shit around and black now. pftt. What I'm really interested in is if I get RE5 for FREE. If not, don't care.

store seems good. i'll try search for demo, download, go back to store and see if it hangs there for a few seconds before letting me browse again. thats my only gripe currently.

Yeah, because when I think "store redesign", the first thing that pops to mind is "free games"!

YOU obviously didn't even look at the provided screenshot. IT says free RE5 and once again to ME it looks the same... basically.

I got RE5 for free with PS+ the other day. Is it not on the US store?
