Wii price cut to $130 in new black bundle

Nintendo's Wii U launches in North America on November 18, but the original Wii will surely still be a hot seller this holiday season. To help shove it along, Nintendo today announced plans that it's cutting the Wii's price to only $129.99 later this month, in a bundle with a black console, one Wii Remote Plus with Nunchuck, and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

To help shove it along, Nintendo today announced plans that it's cutting the Wii's price to only $129.99 later this month, in a bundle with a black console, one Wii Remote Plus with Nunchuck, and both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort.

Excepted to be on store shelves by October 28, this new bundle will replace Nintendo's old $150 pack with a black Wii and a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

"Nearly six years after it launched, people are still attracted to the pure, inclusive fun of the Wii console," said Nintendo of America executive sales & marketing VP Scott Moffitt declared in today's announcement. "A new suggested retail price and the inclusion of two great games make it an easy choice for families looking for a great value this holiday season."

The cheapest of the Wii U's two editions will cost $299.99, so a cheaper option will be tempting for some of the few households still without a Wii. The Wii U will have 23 titles on launch day.

Why should the Wii have been $99 at launch?

Almost 100 million have shipped, so the price clearly wasn't too big an issue as consoles go.

because people need to troll every article with asinine jabs at how worthless they think Nintendo is. it's a thing now.

They were only making about $20 dollars a console at launch so $99 would have cost them money on each unit sold.

It wasn't just not selling well too, it wasn't selling well in a hard market (with phones taking a bigger chunk than previously and the Vita poised to strike soon), they had to grab a fair amount of market share quickly.

A lot of retailers here are bundling it with a Mario game (Mario Kart, Mario 3D or NSMB2, I believe)

I missed out on last year's Black Friday for $99. I should had gotten out of bed and grabbed one, but I chose sleep instead.

While the $130 isn't a bad deal I know that THIS model does not play Gamecube games and ONLY plays Wii games.

If I could find a Wii that plays Gamecube games too (for cheap mind you) I'd prob get one. I've still got a crazy Gamecube backlog.

It's a launch Wii, so it should play anything. And it's pretty lightly used.
