E.T. and video games. It's considered one of the causes of the great video game crash of 1983. And, the alien is threatening to kill video games once again.

E.T.: The Green Planet is a new free-to-play game for iOS from Strawdog Studios, Big Play Digital, and Chillingo. The game takes E.T. to a dying planet where he must use his healing touch to breed new plants.

"E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial is one of the greatest science-fiction films ever made and conjures up nostalgia for countless fans around the world. We are excited to commemorate this global cultural phenomenon by publishing an amazing new game," Chillingo's Chris Byatte said in the announcement.

Oddly, this is actually the twelfth game based on E.T. movie--at least according to Wikipedia. Clearly, the industry likes putting its hand to the fire.
