Late Night Computing for October 10, 2012 is here to salve your aching heart...and wallet.

Still juggling games are you? Me, too! Seems we're in good company. I started Dishonored last night while the fourth episode of The Walking Dead downloaded. XCOM: Enemy Unknown is just going to eat my entire life away, so I figured I better save it for awhile and give me something to play once things slow down. How's your Broketober going so far?

News bits:

Chatty posts of the moment.

Make sure you log-in and check your filters if you can't see the following:

  • "Why don't girls like games? Or toys in general. Of course there are exceptions, but there's a huge gender divide when it comes to these hobbies. Is it that conflict and war appeal to men on some level? I'm pretty sure [chicks] dig board games like scrabble or monopoly, but as soon as the games simulate fantasy or war they're out.

How much of it is a social thing, and how much is a fundamental difference between genders? I guess most sports are more a man thing too, but I can't speak to that unless you count Dota 2." [by Chipwarrior]

  • "XCOM Thread. So to piggyback off my stream from last night, I fired up XCOM: Enemy Unknown as soon as I saw that it had finished downloading. Much love to people who were giving me crap about having my webcam on the feed as well. And yes, mwasher, I am single. :P After doing the prerequisite tweaks to volume, binds, settings, and everything else, I started a campaign on Classic Ironman. I opted to skip the tutorial.

In order to keep this post to a manageable length, I’ll just move straight to a Impressions, Pros, and Cons list. I’ll probably have to stash them in reply, but here goes nothing! " [by MercFox1]

  • World of Warcraft Crafting Azeroth map beta for Minecraft. "The Crafting Azeroth project is a full-scale reproduction of the World of Warcraft environment for Minecraft. The creation of the map is heavily automated, assisted by custom software that Rumsey has developed. The continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms were the first to be generated. The files extract to ~24 GB so make sure you have enough harddrive space. The download contains map files for Eastern Kingdom and Kalimdor plus two essential plugins for running a Bukkit server. Bukkit is needed to play the map properly; there are no equivalent plugins for single-player at this time. " Download the beta here.
