Borderlands 2 Mechromancer DLC arrives today

Borderlands 2's fifth class, Gaige the Mechromancer, was slated to arrive next Tuesday as paid DLC but oh! She'll be available today. If you pre-ordered the FPS-RPG, or plan to cough up $10, you should be playing as her by the end of the day, but you can get a head start by planning your build on her newly-released skill tree.

Gaige's three trees cover a fair spread of play styles and ability levels. For newbies, the Best Friends Forever tree has lots of skills to generally help you out, not to mention a load of references to My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic.

The second tree, Little Big Trouble, is a relatively straightforward affair buffing Gaige's elemental damage and her robot chum, but the third is an intriguing one. Ordered Chaos revolves around stacking 'Anarchy' bonuses by killing men and emptying magazines, which boosts your damage but messes with your accuracy. Anarchy can also explode men in mid-air, and buff up melee.

So then, which tree most tickles your fancy?

Haven't even finished the game yet.. honestly I think it's too long. I wouldn't mind the length if I was always visiting new areas but when it's artificially extended by recycling old areas, I get bored really quickly. I guess I'll be skipping most of the sidequests my next time around.

Ya I Like it the first play through but it gets stale on second one, still fun with friends tho

I thought second play through was better due to the difficulty ramping up. Play through one didn't really feel like a challenge but rather a warm up for PT2/2.5.

I a'm having a hard time with alts though if that is what you are referring to. I'm kind of power hungry and the destruction at lower levels I find lacking. About 15-20 is where the game/skills start to shine.

I agree. First play through was way too easy. I think I maybe died twice. NG+ I actually have to plan my attack a little bit or I just get slaughtered.

I assume you didn't play as the gunzerker? I was dieing left and right as him. BL1 I was the solider and thought the whole game was easy mode.

Commando's definitely easy mode in BL2. Throw the turret (which is now capable of shooting 360 degrees), watch all your enemies latch onto it, and proceed to get 10 headshots in a row with your sniper rifle.

Took me 66 hours to play through the whole game including all side quests. I thought the game was great! Recycling of areas wasn't a problem. You picked up quests at a hub, did them and moved on to the next area.

The game is too long because of the backtracking they make you do.

Fucking Cult of the Firehawk quest. Fuck that quest.

Seems like a random tree class, doesn't seem to be a lot of synergy there compared to the existing classes?

Yeah it seems like a great solo class since you get a tank pet and a bunch of self-only buffs.

The ordered chaos tree would get much better with other allies on the field, though. Ordered chaos should play sorta like a melee Zer0, but without the oh shit button. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.

If you had Premier Club you get it, otherwise no, Mechromancer is not part of the Season Pass, and it's probably safe to say any other "character" DLC isn't either.

That is really dumb to break up DLC like that.

I'd assume it's not going to effect most people paying for the season pass as they most likely pre-ordered if they are that gung-ho about more Borderlands content, but wow.

I also don't understand people just buying something without reading what they are buying. The season pass specifically says you are getting 4 expansions for the price of 3. Nothing more, nothing less.

It didn't happen to me, and it's claimed to be 'unrelated', but there is a current bug where your Badass Rank / Tokens / Skins and Heads can be zeroed at... random?

        http://forums.gearboxsoftware.com/showthread.php?t=150243

Been following that bug for the better part of two weeks and I'll admit it - I'm pretty miffed about it's continued existence and the lack of communication from Gearbox about it. My copy of BL2 has been gathering dust ever since the reports came in.

Probably never buying a Gearbox title on launch again. :x

Don't like how ordered chaos tree requires both first level skills to go any further. What if I don't want smaller magazine sizes?

        October 9, 2012 2:16 PM

I think that's the rub with going down that tree. I did a pre-build on the sheet where I only unlock Anarchy stacks and use the other two trees.

          October 9, 2012 2:59 PM

unlocking Anarchy stacks without the smaller magazines/faster reloads makes no sense at all, when you are actually playing the game.

          • reply
            October 9, 2012 3:22 PM

why? it increases your damage, and skills further down use anarchy to do additional damage. Sure, smaller magazines mean quicker stack accumulation, but with my current commando character, I'm finding the better weapons currently already have small magazines (my best pistol has only 8 per clip and my best riffle has only 13 per clip). I'm assuming that if you go this route, you will be using pistols, shotguns, sniper, and rockets, but never SMGs as their clips are too large. I know it maxes at only 4% smaller, but 1 or 2 bullets smaller clip for 25% faster reload doesn't sound like a good trade to me. Especially for guns that use multiple bullets per shot.

Hmm, Discord on that tree also mess with the use of weapons that explode on reload (they have a bigger explosion the more ammo is left in them).

        October 9, 2012 2:58 PM

smaller magazine sizes is the entire point of that skill tree, as you become /insanely/ more powerful when you empty clips faster. /insanely/.
