Kingdom Hearts 2 HD teased by series creator

Kingdom Hearts director Tetsuya Nomura has given a sly hint at an HD remix of Kingdom Hearts 2.

Square Enix recently announced the Kingdom Hearts 1.5 HD Remix for PlayStation 3. The collection will include remastered versions of Kingdom Hearts: Final Mix, Re:Chain of Memories, and 358/2 Days. But conspicuously absent was any mention of Kingdom Hearts 2.

Why release a compilation set that's missing half of the main series entries? So it can be sold separately, of course.

Series director Tetsuya Nomura gave a decidedly unsubtle hint to Japanese magazine Famitsu (via Gematsu) that Kingdom Hearts 2 has its own remastering in the works. Asked if there would be an HD version of KH2, Nomura reportedly smiled and said, "it'd be unusual if there wasn't."

Nomura also said that presenting the complex plot of Kingdom Hearts in chronological order might be more welcoming for new players, and help existing fans notice new aspects of the story. That does make us wonder what a potential KH2 rerelease would include, though. The only remaining games are the 3DS title Dream Drop Distance, and the PSP Birth by Sleep, which is a prequel to all the other games in the series.
