Gamerscore unlocks Xbox Live Marketplace rebates

Members of the free Xbox Live Rewards service now have monetary incentive to go after those blip-bloop Achievements. By reaching certain Gamerscore thresholds, you can unlock Xbox Live rebates.

As promised, your Gamerscore will now be worth something. Members of the free Xbox Live Rewards service will have monetary incentive to go after those blip-bloop Achievements in order to earn bonuses. "Contenders" will now earn "a special gift" during their birthday month as long as they have earned 3,000G. But there are other, better gifts for members that reach higher Gamerscore thresholds.

At 10,000G, you'll earn "Champion" status and earn a 1% rebate on your Xbox Live Marketplace purchases every month--in addition to the special birthday gift. 25,000G unlocks "Legend" status and a 2% rebate.

While the amounts are rather paltry, they should add up over time. And remember, Rewards members earn 20MSP every month for taking a survey. Over a year, the percentage point rebate coupled with the surveys should add up to at least one DLC track in Dance Central...

To check out all the bonuses (and sign up), you can visit Xbox Live Rewards.

Gold Members only. This is a pretty important detail.

I feel like Xbox Live is giving people the finger with everything it does. This is a prime example.

Wha? Like having to subscribe to PSN+ for free games? I can't tell if you are being sarcastic or just dense.

I am confused. Are you saying that paying microsoft $60 a year for multiplayer and no other benefits is similar to paying to PSN+ and getting free games?

I pay for live, but what are the benefits, other than more ads in the dashboard every fucking update?

Small enough rewards to not make it unfair, good enough to make some effort to reaching the 30,000 GS mark.

It could have been a lot worse.

Dude, this thread is civil compared to the bitching and moaning I'm seeing on other sites. But yea, it's about a standard rewards card rate, and it's applied to stuff you are already doing, so it's pretty nice.

Yeah, I thought I would be an instant "Champion" but then I signed up and the fine print says it only counts for points you've earned AFTER you signed up. So my 14K+ means nothing right now I guess. Booooo!

Yeah, I was responding more to Gwyndion, I have since checked and my legend status has been unlocked. Now I have to wait 11 months for my birthday gift......hopefully an Xbox 720.

Nah I'm not switching back to gold, sorry Micro. This is a joke, with the highest status you save around three pennies on an xbla game...oh wow such value...hey it adds up, If I spend $150 I basically saved $3...woopy!

So, basically, spend 4,000 MS Points just to get enough to buy an avatar T-shirt. What idiots at MS think this is a good reward program? They tout it as 'rewards' but you get next to nothing back for dumping in more money to them. I'd rather they just did away with this whole Rewards thing anyway.
