Mass Effect Trilogy coming November, brings original game to PS3 for the first time

BioWare announced the Mass Effect Trilogy today, a compilation of all three games coming to PC and Xbox 360 on November 6. PlayStation 3 owners will have to wait a bit longer.

Some people missed the boat on this whole "Mass Effect" thing, and were forced to watch passively from the sidelines as adulation turned to ending-based scorn. If you'd like to give it a whirl and don't mind being late to the party, you can wait until November 6 when BioWare releases all three games in one box.

BioWare announced the set today, which packages Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 together for $59.99. The PC and Xbox 360 versions of the compilation will be available November 6, while the PlayStation 3 will get it sometime later. The announcement notes that this is the first time PS3 owners will get the chance to play through the original Mass Effect, and it will be available as a stand-alone game through the PlayStation Network as well.

The announcement conspicuously doesn't mention downloadable content, though, so if you want to play extra missions like Mass Effect 2's Overlord or Mass Effect 3's Leviathan, you'll probably need to shell out some extra funds.

BioWare is also attempting to bring back self-imposed game holidays like Mortal Monday with the announcement of "N7 Day," which will take place on November 7. Get it? The company promises in-game, online, and live events to celebrate the occasion.

This would be fantastic... if it included all the DLC.

I'm sure they held the DLC back so they can sell it to you again in a deluxe addition. They're going all star wars re-re-rerelease on this I bet.

That's cool, it's a shame that the first game is the only game actually worth playing. I guess I can try writing my own sequels.

Wait...does this mean they are porting the first Mass Effect to the PS3?!

I'm noticing a distinct lack of support for a WiiU version, could that possibly be an indication of how much Bioware/EA think their trilogy would sell on the new console?

It looks bland tho. I'm hoping there would be more artwork or extras.

It looks like they just cheaply printed the cd labels and threw it in a black box, otherwise I would be all over this, even tho I own all 3 seperately, it would be bad ass to have a cool collection.

I think that they made a decision to focus on ME3 and work on tablet features. I could see them going back through me and me2 and putting the work in there if me3 actually sells on wii u (Which I really doubt).

Notice that PS3 isn't going to be day and date with pc and xbox.

EA lost a huge fan-base for pulling THAT stunt on ME3, what makes them think people who already bought the games want to go through this whole stunt over again?

The "artistic direction" stunt. Not Bioware, EA.

I assume you are talking about the ending? That's not really EA's fault.

Turning Bioware into a pale shade of its former self is EA's fault.

I'm not ready to write BioWare off until their next game. ME3 did have some good moments, ignoring a depressing lack of impact on the Rachini choice made in ME 1 :(

They have a chance to blow it out of the park with Dragon Age 3. All they have to do is acknowledge how badly they fucked up DA2, revisit all the things they did right in DA:O, and sprinkle a little more classic RPG good-will on it ala Project Eternity.

But if they fuck up DA3, they're done as far as I'm concerned :(

besides the extended Cut DLC "fixed" an ambiguity. its a solid purchase for someone whose never played them IMO, especially if the DLC comes with it.

It was an improvement over what they had but the ending still sucked.

Actually, if you see EA's track-record, you will find that many successful studios have been either disbanded, or their IPs watered-down by EA's monopolistic practices.
