Nintendoland and Mickey 2 might be fun. And what about AC 3? BLOPS 2? That should help carry the load. Not exclusives, no, but they are indeed arriving at roughly the same time as the other versions.

Anyone who thinks this is a terrible launch lineup doesn't remember what all the other console launches have been like.

I couldn't stand Mickey 1 and 2 just doesn't look like it changed enough, we'll see about it though. Will be going for the Delux edition and I know my wife will play the fuck out of Nintendoland it even if I don't.

Go for it, man. I'm not an early adopter type but if the system achieves even a GameCube level of success I'm sure I'll get one.

There's way too much FUD surrounding this system, and it's not grounded in the facts. Like I said in the other thread, we've got people blasting the Wii U as "5 year old technology", when it's been confirmed to have 4 times the RAM and a much better graphics card than the 360 or PS3. It's bullshit and I hope things turn around.

Yeah, most of the stuff coming out from Nintendo isn't pushing the hardware at all and the stuff coming from 3rd parties is mostly ports (save Ubisoft, who seems to have a real hard on for this). It'll be interesting to see what stuff designed from the ground up for it looks like next year.

There seems to be a certain segment of the gamer population who will automatically write off Nintendo and their hardware regardless of actual facts.

I remember watching a video of Nintendoland and thinking it looked terribly boring, but I haven't seen much else of it.

I'd get AC3/BLOPS 2 on Xbox personally. Not that I care, I doubt I'll be getting the Wii U anytime soon - I'd rather wait for the inevitable price drop or bundle next holiday season.

AC3 looked great at E3, running the same, if not better, than the other consoles. The only reason not to get it would be because we're still not sure how smooth DLC is going to work on Wii U.

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with ports, it's just not really what you want to see on a brand new piece of hardware. Actually the whole console in general is kind of a tough sell. If you are not blown away by the idea of a controller with a screen.. you are essentially paying $300+ for current generation hardware which is being released with last years games.

            • reply
              September 26, 2012 6:08 PM

A, it's not current generation hardware. It has 4x the RAM and a graphics chip that is several generations more advanced. Will it be eclipsed by the next Xbox and PlayStation? Probably. But that doesn't make it current gen hardware.

B, no one buys a console just for the launch titles, at least I never would. You buy it because you know Ninty is going to make some great games for this thing, and the multiplatform stuff is going to have some neat features that the existing consoles are not capable of.

Everyone complained about Wii's lack of multiplatform titles, then they turn around and complain when they have them. Guess they can't win.

Also, I count 6 exclusives in the list.

People complained about a lack of third party support on the Wii, multiplatform or exclusive - it didn't matter. Also, the only thing the Wii really had going for it was quality, first party titles. What are you talking about?

You say the Wii U is going to have the same problem. This is based off of... what exactly? You've already came to this conclusion 2 months before the console is released? Pretty knee jerk reaction there Johnny.

The Wii U is by no means looking to be the perfect console. There are a ton of things I wish Nintendo did differently and I think they deserve a lot of the flak they are receiving. However, your constant thread shitting on everything related to Wii U is getting pretty old man.

Everything we've seen puts it, minimally, better than current gen. If rumors of Sony and MS wanting to (or being forced to) wait out this gen a little longer are true, we could see the next Nintendo console 3 years into the PS4/720 life-cycle, about when the Wii U would be getting pretty underwhelming ports.

It says right there in your article that the only downside is having a CPU that is slightly less than the 360. Meanwhile, it has double the available memory and a much improved GPU.

I think everyone knows it's not going to be 3x as powerful as the current gen, but trying to cherry pick your links in an attempt to call it less powerful is silly.

No, the point was that it wasn't less powerful than current consoles as you originally stated

I do agree that it will probably be outdated when new consoles come out, but how much remains to be seen. Hopefully it's enough to not be back in the same situation the Wii is in right now.

Also, Nintendo has always been pretty good about first party games so I'm not sure what you are on about there. I believe 9 out of those 23 titles listed above are actually exclusive to the system - which isn't too bad relative to other console launches.

The DS had a shitty launch, worse than this, and it ended up the second best selling system of all time, behind the PS2.

I'm not saying the Wii U will achieve that level of success, I'd be shocked if it did. But this launch is not really cause for doom-and-gloom.

I've primarily been a Nintendo console owner since the beginning until getting into pc gaming when Battlefield 1942 came out. So for me, Wii U will be a great complimentary console to my pc.

If you're looking for quality software (even Batman which is a year old) I think this could be a great launch line up. I wonder if everyone will bitch and moan this much once Durango/Orbis launch games are announced (at E3 2013 perhaps?) and it's all a bunch of enhanced ports for current gen holiday 2013 titles.

Oh and don't forget that 1 month delay between new games (waverace was the 3rd and only release for the 2nd month) for a while on that system, these kids now a days get spoiled with there day 1 launch days. 22 games pfft, we didn't need 22 games to keep us busy with a brand new system, I remember beating Mario 64 4 times that month, thats all we needed to keep our interest in our shiny new system back in the 90's....

Oh and now for the real horror...... WE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ONLINE GAMING BACK THEN!!!

Sorry to scare any young readers that might have read my comment.
