Capcom aiming to avoid PC port missteps with Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil 6's PC version is coming well after the consoles, and Capcom says the move is intentional to have a solid codebase and avoid port issues.

PC gamers will have to wait to get their hands on Resident Evil 6. While the console versions are coming in a few weeks time, the PC port will release later. According to Capcom senior VP Christian Svensson, though, taking a more deliberate approach will help them avoid some of the missteps that can come from a poor port.

"The process did not begin until after the console versions were complete, submitted, approved by console 1st parties to use that final codebase as the starting point," Svensson said on the Capcom Unity forums (via The Escapist). He says the team is appropriately small for the project size, and it will still be "some time" before the company provides details on release dates and PC specs.

"Projects like this you guys seem to think are 'trivial' but they are not," he said. "When they get treated as trivial, you end up with Resident Evil 4 PC... which I don't think too many true fans were pleased with." Resident Evil 4 was criticized for poor graphics and lack of mouse support--something Capcom will likely avoid with RE6. Then again, judging by Andrew's latest preview, you may not be pleased with a perfect port either.

I'm aiming to avoid the game in general, maybe a $2 rent at the redbox for the Leon/good campaign.

      Capcom is on a Roll;

      Mega Man: M.I.A.

Resident Evil: Ruined & changed beyond recognition.

DmC: "I'm Dante" No you're not, Dante was a fun, pizza eating, go crazy kind of guy, you're just a brooding jack ***.

At least I still got Monster Hunter...for now.

shitty controls, no visual settings, they don't even replace the fuckin xbox button icons in the game. like "press LB to run" what the fuck is LB? i don't see it on my keyboard...
      scumbags...

I would say after DMC3, they have gotten much better, FROM should give them a call.

My guess is because they just assumed pc gamers were going to play with the Xbox controller. There had to be a way of finding out what LB was map to wasn't there?!

Capcom's pc ports in the MT framework era have been pretty good. DMC4 is easily the best version of the game. RE5 is great outside of not getting the DLC packs. DR2 and the fighting games turned out good as well.

Sounds good to me, well if RE6 is like the PC versions of Lost Planet 1, 2, DMC4, SF4 series, and others that are good then I am all for it, those ports where very well done.

Seems doubtful at this point. RIP Red Dead Redemption PC and Dragon's Dogma PC

Why are they dragging their butts? They're already way past the RE4 debacle!

DMC4 (2008), RE5, SF4, SFxTekken, these were all well done; why are they using RE4 as an excuse to be slow with RE6? Since 2008 they've properly done PC ports so there should be maximum of 2 months between their console release.

The game doesn't seem very scary anyway so I probably shouldn't complain since I'll probably wait for a Thanksgiving or Christmas sale on Steam to buy it.

Don't forget the two Dead Rising 2 PC ports. Those were top drawer.

I beat RE5 on both xbox and pc and I'd say the pc version was great. So was super sf4 and sf X tekken.
