BioWare working on next 'full game' in Mass Effect series, brand new IP

BioWare is already working on the next "full game" in the Mass Effect franchise.

BioWare has been upfront that Mass Effect 3 would not be the last game in their successful space RPG series. And apparently, they are already working on the next "full game" in the Mass Effect franchise. But first, BioWare will release more multiplayer content and more single-player stories "throughout the next six months."

"'Where to go next?' with such a project has been a question a lot of us have been asking, and we'd all love to hear your ideas," BioWare asked on its blog. Wherever BioWare decides to take the franchise, remember to keep your save files from Mass Effect 3.

In addition to a new Mass Effect game, BioWare GM Aaryn Flynn notes that Casey Hudson, producer of the Mass Effect franchise, is also working on an "all new game set in a fictional universe, built from the bottom-up with all new gaming technology." That sounds vaguely like something that could be introduced in the next-generation of consoles, doesn't it?

I can say I'd probably enjoy another story in the ME universe, maybe this time you play a turian or something.

I like the Turians so I would be down for that!

It's a universe ripe for excellent stories and brilliant games. But I won't be getting over-excited until I hear independent reports telling me that it's worthwhile.

being able to play as any race would be nice although possibly limiting what they could do with the story as maybe they'd have to make it more generic to fit a krogan as the centre of a plot but also possibly a quarian, turian, etc.

Yeah maybe they could have different starting arcs that branch into one depending on the race you chose? I'd be cool with a solid story thwarting some threat that while critical isnt a Reaper esque threat again if that makes sense.

Unless it's a downloadable game or a dlc mission, you'll never see a non-human main character in the series. EA would come back with "our marketing data/ focus group testing tells us that most consumers in our target demo want to play as a human therefore wasting resources on making a Mass Effect Origins is out of the question".

A smaller dlc mission or download only game would allow them to justify that choice because it's a smaller budget and made specifically for the super fans of the series.

As a matter of fact, I'd love to see a "Tales from the Mass Effect universe" concept pushed as the next thing since that universe is so rich but it's nothing more than a pipe dream with the shake ups that are happening.

I feel like someone could do a really sweet RTS or 4X game in the Mass Effect universe. Some sort of game vaguely reminiscent of Space Rangers (2) could also be badass.

So are they dumping the last of the RPG mechanics this time?

If [yes] then no sale for me, man they better not :( that be the end of the series for me if they kill the RPG elements.

Might still check it out maybe if there is a reason to, but it no more be on the list and I would not be pumped about it at all.

        I hope you are wrong.

It will be an interactive novel written by an average fan-fic level writer. They'll do away with all that clunky combat in order to let the sub par story shine. Where you will have multiple dialogue options that all lead to the same place.

The RPG mechanics in ME1 felt shoehorned in. They were terrible. Glad they got rid of that shit in ME2.

Bring back Shepard! He was breathing and alive at the end of ME3. ME3 was the end of a trilogy, and the trilogy was about the Reapers invading the galaxy, I'm willing to be that they'll have another trilogy to "liberate" the galaxy that will span decades in game-time.

Id like to see more stuff with the Leviathans. Also, post ME3 galaxy should be pretty fucked up. Lawlessness would reign in the galaxy! Gimme an ME Pirate game. That'd be cool.

          MassEffect Age: origins.

          Nuff said.

5 races to choose 5 origin stories, similar storyline through main game, just need 5 good voice actors.
