BioWare co-founders Muzyka and Zeschuk resign
by Andrew Yoon, Sep 18, 2012 11:56am PDTBioWare co-founders Ray Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have both resigned from the company. Founded in 1995, the Canadian developer is known for creating some of the industry's most popular RPG franchises, including Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, and Dragon Age. The company is also responsible for the beleaguered MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic.
Muzyka and Zeschuk have both stayed with the company since its acquisition by Electronic Arts in 2007. In a blog post to the community, Muzyka says he will "retire from videogames" altogether, to pursue an "entirely different set of challenges." Specifically, it appears Muzyka is interested in "getting involved in social impact investment" and plans on "getting involved with more charities in education, health care, and animal rights."
Zeschuk echoes Muzyka's sentiments, adding "I've reached an unexpected point in my life where I no longer have the passion that I once did for the company, for the games, and for the challenge of creation." Like his longtime partner, he will be departing the games industry, working on "personal passion-driven projects related to craft beer."
Both men leave the industry having left a tremendous impact. Shacknews wishes them the best of luck in their future endeavors.
