Lego Lord of the Rings to feature open world, crafting

Lego Lord of the Rings will feature an open-world environment and crafting at blacksmith shops, according to publisher Warner Bros.

The Lego games tend to progress in small steps, as TT Games produces them at a breakneck pace. The next one in the long-running series, Lego Lord of the Rings, is touting its own additions to the formula, among other features.

Eurogamer reports that the game will feature an open-world version of Middle-Earth. Warner Bros hasn't detailed just how open it will be, but it's a likely bet it will share elements in common with Lego Batman 2, which used a free-roaming Gotham as its mission hub.

The game will also feature a new crafting system. You'll be able to take mithril to your local blacksmith to craft and combine items. This would seem to imply that equipment will play a role as well.

Finally, Lego games are known for their sprawling character rosters, and Lord of the Rings will be no different. Warner Bros promises 80 characters in all, which should make plenty of room for obscure characters found in The Silmarillion.

I need to get back to Batman 2. It was pretty great, but I wish it was more DC in general instead of mostly Batman. I think a goofy Lego JLA game would be the shit.

Lego Batman 2 has pretty much every Justice league character (ok mostly the originals)

I don't know how far you got with the game but there are lots of other DC superheros in Lego Batman 2 besides Batman.

dont bother. they're useless because you've already done the story part by the time you've unlocked/found enough gold bricks to purchase them. ie Supergirl costs 250 gold bricks. which is what you get when you complete the game at 100%

They get pretty close to that in the final few missions, but I agree -- I hope they do another one and make more of an effort to include more opportunities to use the JLA.

the last lego batman game (dc heroes) was sort of open world. too bad there's not a lot of quests to make it interesting. finished the story mode in a day or two

they're fun in co-op. play with my son and he gives me a play by play of what's happening. he probably knows more about star wars than any shacker and he's never seen the entire first trilogy ("not enough jedi and too much talking")

Would love if this was truely open world, be pretty amazing.

I haven't played a lego game since SW: ep 1, but what I'm seeing lately is pretty cool looking.

I've only played the Star Wars Lego games, which i found to be pretty boring. Mostly family/girlfriend friendly stuff. THIS however, sounds awesome.
