It can be tough to choose between a kid's desire to play games on a tablet and your desire not to have a 6-year-old break your $500 status symbol. If you're constantly handing your iPad to your kid only to fret every time they toss it in the air, good news. Toys R Us is making a cheaper tablet explicitly for the smaller set.

Gamasutra reports that the "Tabeo" Android tablet will be sold in TRU stores starting on October 21. It will come installed with 20 games like Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja, along with books and educational apps. The tablet will also connect to its own specialty app store, full of kid-safe apps curated by Toys R Us.

It will feature a 7-inch screen, multi-touch, with a built-in camera, WiFi, motion controls, 4GB of storage, a microSDHC slot, and parental controls. Its price tag of $150 puts it far below most other tablets, particularly the pricey iPad, but slightly above LeapFrog's LeapPad2 tablet.

I actually like the idea of this. I have plenty of friends with little kids who come calling when they want to know how to setup their devices to be kid friendly. To have a device that is designed that way would be nice.

I'm assuming, of course, that isn't a piece of shit in the end.

My boys constantly ask to play games on my tablet... I wouldn't mind having one to give them to play with even if it's just so my batteries aren't dead every time I want to use mine.

Yeah, I don't know how popular those things every were, but kids aren't dumb, they know they have more fun with their parent's ipad or Android tablet than an under-powered piece of junk.

This only makes any sense if it at least more rugged than a normal tablet. And, I haven't read that about any of these kid-focused tablets. Without that, for this price, you're better off just getting a Kind Fire ($159) and at lest you get that new FreeTime functionality to limit the kid's play time.
