Nintendo's beloved living-in-debt simulator is coming back in "early 2013," the publisher has announced. The long-awaited 3DS entry in the Animal Crossing series was first announced in 2010, but little has been revealed about the game since. One of the new features for the still-untitled game is the ability to be the mayor.

For a lengthy look at the game, check out this developer roundtable from last year:

I really hope it has unlockable NES games in it like the GameCube one. I really missed that in the DS one even though it was such a tiny detail.

No Animal Crossing game will ever have that feature again. Nintendo would rather have you pay $5 for NES games on the eShop.

Maybe they'll put in blank arcade machines that you can stick any of your purchased VC games in.

I wonder if it will be any different from the original GC game? The DS game was pretty similar and the Wii game was essentially the S game with a shop outside the town.

A durrr, even if you weren't following this, it says in the description that in this game you're not a resident, you're the mayor.

the problem with both of those games was that there was nothing to do. play it for 2-3 hours and you have your house set up, you've run out of fetch quests to do and you're just expected to pick weeds and plant things and sell them and that's usually the point of the game where i'm like, why did I buy this again? i vowed that the DS version would be the last one i buy.
