by Andrew Yoon, Aug 21, 2012 3:30pm PDTFuncom, developer of the recently released subscription MMO, The Secret World, is laying off a considerable number of staff. Citing "expected lower initial revenues" from the game, the company has announced a "reduction of operating costs" that includes "temporary layoffs as well as other initiatives."
According to The Verge, the layoffs could affect upwards of half of the studio's worldwide staff. A representative could not comment on specifics "as we are currently in the middle of this process we can not provide any further comment at the present time." Adding, "rest assured however that we have long-term plans for the company and that we remain fully committed to all of our games."
