Report: PSP outselling Vita 2-to-1
by Steve Watts, Aug 20, 2012 12:30pm PDTVita sales have never really taken off, even as Sony insists it's too early to cut the price. In fact, based on figures provided by Sony, it appears their last-generation handheld, PSP, is still outselling the Vita by more than a 2-to-1 margin.
CVG reports that the Vita sold about 400,000 units worldwide in the financial quarter between April and June of this year. Sony told investors that the two platforms combined sold about 1.4 million units during the quarter, which means the PSP itself sold one million units.
Keep in mind, these sales are for the most recent quarter, not a comparison of the PSP at the same point in its lifespan. The older system has a significant price advantage over the Vita now, not to mention a pretty hefty library of relatively cheap games.

1) A new iteration that abolishes the new memory card format. The cards have been proven to be slower than current high speed SD cards, so the only reason for doing this is for a blatant cash grab.
2) A way for people that own PSP games to play the games they already own without re-purchasing.
3) More games beyond the standard JRPG fare. The hardware is capable of playing console quality games (both visually and gameplay/controller wise). It's perfect for action games.
4) A price cut on both the hardware and the software. The fact that it's currently sitting at the same price as a PS3 is a major marketing fuckup on Sony's behalf. Knock $50 off and bring the games down to the $40 mark
