PC gaming enthusiasts have long been pining for Nvidia's Kepler series. With full support for DirectX 11 features, TXAA, and PhysX, they represent the beginning of a new generation of gaming graphics. However, with the GTX 680 series costing upwards of $500 or more, the cards have been out of reach for many PC gamers. Today, Nvidia launches the GTX 660 Ti, the lowest priced entry in Nvidia's Kepler series. Not only do cards start at $299, it will be bundled with a voucher redeemable for a free copy of Borderlands 2, an attractive incentive for those already intending to buy the game. Of course, the 660 Ti represents a rather significant leap from Nvidia's last-generation Fermi cards, as evidenced by the stats they've provided. According to their press release, the 660 Ti is on average 41 percent faster than the 560 Ti from 2011.

Predictable performance gains over 2011

And while a performance boost is to be expected, perhaps the most interesting feature of the 660 Ti is its power consumption. By default, its TDP is 150 watts and uses two 6-pin connectors. That should make upgrading to this card a relatively painless experience for many.

I wonder how much of an improvement this would be over a GTX 570. I JUST put my rig together last November with a 570 so I have a hard time justifying a new 680 already. This still isn't cheap for a new card... I have a feeling it wouldn't be worth the price/performance for the upgrade.

Anywhere from 10-20 FPS in different games according to this review. Maybe an average of 15 or so.

Yeah, going from a 570 to a 6x0 isn't likely to be worthwhile unless you have several hundred dollars and nothing at all to use it on.

I stop reading and following hardware news for a couple of years after I build a new computer. I don't want to see what could have been if I just waited a few more weeks.

yea... best to only look at hardware when it's actually time to buy some new hardware. Otherwise just watch videos of what the latest and greatest can do --- then decide if you need new hardware, or not.

This or a 670 for upgrading from a 5870? I game at 1080 and really like vsync 60fps solid. $100 difference.

660ti for the most part will be 60fps solid on a single 1080 screen. It really depends on the game. In some games even the 7950 is ahead of the 680 and on other the 660ti is well ahead of the 7970. It's crazy how things swing around so much. Regardless the 660ti is a bit better than the 7870 in nearly all cases and trails behind or ahead of the 7950. If you're wanting to compare to the closest AMD offerings. However with it's gimped memory interface will probably work against you if you crank up the MSAA.

I just upgraded from the gtx 480 to the gtx 680 last night. I was going to go with the 660 as games just are not that demanding anymore, thanks to consoles, at 1920x1080. It was the inner nerd eppeen syndrome that made me put the 680 on the CC, shipped to work of course so the wife doesn't find out.

Will a 955 BE at 3.2 bottleneck this card?

I guess I should upgrade from the 560Ti, I'm not even sure what high demanding games are coming out this fall, certainly not BL2.

I'm looking to upgrade my ATi 6870 this coming Black Friday and after 2 generations of ATi hardware I'm giving a serious thought to switch over to nVIDIA again, particularly for the new features on Kepler boards (like the dynamic vsync/gpu clocks, SSAO+FXAA+TXAA by driver and CUDA support on certain applications).

I have 2 monitors but only game in a 1080p display, will I feel that much of a difference in terms of performance/visual quality and would it be a investment you people would consider?
