Diablo 3 Starter Edition no longer needs guest pass
by John Keefer, Aug 14, 2012 4:00pm PDTIf you've wanted to try Diablo 3's Starter Edition, but never had a friend who could send you a guest pass code, you can finally give the game a try. Blizzard announced today that anyone with a Battle.net account can now try the game code-free.
Blizzard offers several ways to get the demo--and don't be fooled, that's all this is--and there are the same restrictions that went with the Guest Pass Starter Edition: You can only advance to level 13, you can't go past the Skeleton King in Act I, and you can only group up with other Starter Edition players. Oh, and no auction house, either real-money or gold.
And even though it is free, you still have to deal with the "always on" requirement. Enjoy Hell.
