SimCity coming to Mac alongside PC version
by Steve Watts, Aug 14, 2012 2:00pm PDTEA announced today that its Origin platform would be heading to Mac, and the company is coming out swinging with one of its heavy-hitters for the platform. The company has given word that SimCity will release for Mac in February 2013, the same launch window given for the PC version.
The multiplayer will also work cross-platform, so you can play with your PC brethren. If you're interested in playing the beta, though, you'll need to use a PC. The game is currently being shown at Gamescom 2012 in Germany.
"Whether you owned a Macintosh or a DOS PC, we all have memories of laying down zones and reticulating splines from our youth," said Maxis general manager Lucy Bradshaw, in the announcement. "To the millions of SimCity fans out there, we've been listening and can proudly say that your calls have been answered. SimCity has a long legacy on the Mac and the team at Maxis is ensuring that it will be the deepest, richest and most accessible SimCity game yet."
