Ubisoft announced the Assassin's Creed 3 naval combat at E3, but saved a more cinematic look for today at Gamescom. A new trailer mans the riggings and swashes the buckles, giving us a nice long look at the war taking place just off the coast of the Colonies.

Check out the trailer below to see cannon fire, sword-fighting crewmen, and one very angry captain.

I love tall ships and have always wanted a beautiful and serious simulation of them on par with, say, Silent Hunter 3. This looks arcadey as fuck, and I'm sure it'll be tightly scripted, but it's also the most vivid rendition of classical naval combat there has ever been, and I'll probably buy AC3 just for it. If only the games industry catered to my appetites specifically.

Well, it's Assassin's Creed: of course it's "arcadey" as fuck. ;D
        Looks fun though.

This just made me think: Did they never do a Master And Commander game?

I see a board game, and a bunch of Flash Games, but no "movie tie in game".

No, and fuck M&C! Hornblower for life! The most recent stab at real time age of sail ship combat was actually Akella's Age of Pirates: Caribbean Tales.
