Starting today, PS3 owners are getting an official YouTube app.
Although the PS3 internet browser received a significant upgrade few months prior, it still didn't provide an ideal YouTube-watching experience. Whereas Xbox Live members could simply access a dedicated app, PS3 owners had to jump through cumbersome menus to (poorly) have a YouTube-on-TV experience. Well, starting today, watching cat videos on your big screen is going to get a bit easier.
An official YouTube app is rolling out today on the PS3, available once the PlayStation Store updates. This is a "completely new experience, designed for the big screen and PS3 controls." As such, you'll see it looks nothing like YouTube on Xbox or Vita.
You'll be able to sign-in to your YouTube account to access your subscribed content. The PlayStation.Blog points out that you can even watch official music videos through the app, meaning PS3 owners won't need a separate VEVO app. And while the PS3 version may lack Kinect support, it adds one nifty tech trick: using your phone as a remote. "With a quick pairing process, you can control YouTube on PS3 with a smartphone. Find a video on your phone and with a button it'll play on the big screen. While the video is playing you can control it from the phone, or keep browsing YouTube for the next one."
Sync your phone to your PS3
So ps3 owners can learn the joy of buffering for 30 seconds to watch 5 seconds of video.
This sounds a pretty cool feature. But damn when will they fix the damn loading lag on the UI when you press the damn PS...
like why even put the fucking thing on youtube then. jesus.
