While Kickstarter has seen successful campaigns to revive out-of-favor genres like adventure games and classic turn-based RPGs, the tactical FPS hasn't fared so well, with several developers failing to fund one. Undeterred, folks behind Half-Life 2 mod Insurgency have turned to KickStarter to fund a commercial sequel, and released eight minutes of gameplay to sway you.

New World Interactive, lead by Insurgency and Red Orchestra founder Jeremy Blum, is looking for $180,000 in its Kickstarter campaign. They've been working on it since 2011 and have the game in reasonable shape, but want to make it "look as good as it plays." Stretch goals include a Linux version, an escort/ambush mode, and extra maps.

$10 will get you a copy when the game launches, saving $5, while $50 offers beta access and there are the customary vanity insertions for people who cough up huge chunks of change.

31 days into the 60-day campaign, only around $37,000 has been raised, so Insurgency 2 will need a real boost to hit the goal. To that end, here's eight minutes of gameplay supplied to RPS in the hope of inspiring gushing and wallet-opening

Oh yeah, the point defence. Even on a pub, you couldn't be a lone warrior, it was natural.

Gameplay looks a lot like some...CoD/CS hybrid..maybe I'm missing something

just like CoD, except on an even older engine, as hard as that is to believe.

Well, as they state in their Kickstarter video, it plays like the original Insurgency, but with beefed up visuals and gameplay mechanics.

In my opinion, if you think that the original Insurgency is "just like CoD", then I'm guessing you haven't actually played both CoD and Insurgency :) So, yes, I think you're missing something.

I think their label of "high-speed tactical" is an excellent description. The first Insurgency was great because it boiled the genre down to the basic mechanics of gun combat. No upgrades, no armor, no bunny hopping, etc, etc. Just you, your gun, and your tactics. However, unlike some of the other tactical FPS games, there weren't a zillion keys needed and it wasn't sluggish or cumbersome to pick up and play right after installing. Everyone has access to the same weapons, the same equipment, and the same information. Your success is based upon your teammates, your teamwork, and your tactical ability. Nothing else.

It's a niche title, which they seem to be well aware of, and so it won't appeal to everyone. But what it is not is CoD. I'm guessing most CoD players won't enjoy this style of gameplay much at all. That being said, hopefully there's enough ex-Rainbow Six (original PC series) players out there, who still haven't found a suitable replacement, and are looking to fund a new one!

I haven't played and it I didn't say it was like CoD. I said like a CoD/CS hybrid. Big difference. One has perks, kill streaks, and rank based weapon unlocks which radically alter gameplay, the other doesn't.

I'll illustrate. To me that video showed hit box's and weapon behaviors characteristic of CS. The ADS and pacing seemed more in-line with CoD. The map layout seemed more in-line with CoD. The lighting and atmosphere of maps, are a lot like CoD. The damage mods seemed like a blend between CoD and CS. The only unique features I saw which seem to affect gameplay is weapon access and some lame background music.

I'm not saying that's what the game is. I haven't played it so I don't know. I'm saying that's what the video makes it look like to me and no doubt others as well.

Looks kinda like it'd be similar to Red Orchestra 2. I dig it.

has anyone here played Plan of Attack? It was a half life 2 mod that was super fun, you'd pick a plan of attack each round for each team, and then everyone would follow it. It made team planning and cohesion work really well. Also, the combat was a little more action oriented than Counterstrike, played like older versions of CS 1
