Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pre-orders to include early beta access

Want to play Counter-Strike: GO one week before everyone else? Time to pre-order the game on Steam.

The cheapest way to pick up Valve's Counter-Strike: Global Offensive will be through the PSN Play promotion on PS3. But the earliest way to play the long-awaited tactical shooter is to buy it on Steam for PC and Mac. By doing so, you'll be able to play the game one week earlier than its planned August 21st release.

Pre-orders of the game have opened on Steam. Early adopters will be able to get the game at a 10% discount ($13.49). In addition, pre-orders include early access to the "beta" version of the game on August 14th.

While it's unclear what content will be included in the "beta," the final version of the game will feature over 45 weapons, "loads of maps," new game modes, new visuals, and over 165 Steam Achievements.

Is this game fun? Haven't seen much buzz for it.

I want to know this as well, and for $13 I'm not expecting much than just a re-skinned, re-textured, plays the same like the old version kinda job

Mainly graphics are updated but weapons are changed too. For example no longer can you get a head shot across the map with a desert eagle or the ak-47 so if you want to snipe you get a weapon that was designed for sniping.

If your idea of fun is shooting the ground and getting head shots then this game is for you!

I've heard that from people, I myself however have yet to experience it.

I consider it fun but its almost the exact same thing as Counter-Strike source. Updated graphics and some of the weapons have changed but its so close to the same thing I think they should have just updated Source rather then call it an all new game.

Is it really available on Mac? On the Steam page it only shows the Windows logo.

You might be looking at the classic Counter Strike package, which is Windows only. GO is definitely Mac-compatible.

I haven't played CS in nearly 10 years and even then I sucked. Is there any reason for me to check this out?

Can't say this new iteration looks like something worth bothering with to me. Afaik, it's just a visual sprucing, yet despite that, the graphics still look dated and blase.

Played the beta, no interest in the full version.

I have played the beta and to me it looked like they wanted the COD kiddies to play this game. The guns sound like shit and not cool, they feel weird, bullets are now "real" so no raytrace and kill when you click. They included gungame as a game mode, and I hate that. The game looks ok, but yeah, not buying this even though it's cheap.

I don't know why there is so much hate. I've really enjoyed playing the beta.

The counterstrike pack, I own every cs except go, if I purchase that will I be able to gift the copies I own (minus GO) to my son?

Unfortunately it won't give you gift copies if you already own them. You will only get GO. It's too bad that Valve doesn't give you gift copies if you already own a game, and they should do that.

I love how people will pay $15 per map map for call of duty games or BF games, but complain when a game gets an overhaul AND still includes maps. I really dont understand it, but its funny as hell to me.

Yes, i do believe this game is worth $15, and plan on getting it for PC and Xbox
