Diablo III may have frustratingly cut single-player and forced everyone to play online at all times, but at least Blizzard's working to make that experience a little smoother. Diablo III's first hotfix of the month popped out on Friday, aiming at patching up 'rubberbanding' so you shouldn't see your Killy Man jerking back and forth in the throes of lag as much anymore.

"Fixed several cases of 'rubberbanding' that could sometimes occur while playing under extremely high latency, when a character changed direction or movement speed, or when a character used certain movement-based abilities (like Tempest Rush or Whirlwind)," Blizzard says on Diablo III's August hotfix log. That's "several cases" mind, not necessarily everything.

A few crash bugs have also been hotfixed.

In other Diablo III update news, Blizzard revealed plans to tweak the Auction House a little. "We're looking to bump the number of Preferred Stats slots from 3 up to 6. We're also looking to bump the number of digits in the 'Min Value' window from 3 to 5 (so you can search for Preferred Stat values higher than '999')," community manager Stephanie 'Lylirra' Johnson explained.

Bullshit. The solution is extremely easy, but they won't take their head out of their asses for the 10 seconds it takes to make all their fans happy. They can go to hell with Diablo.

You realize the entire game is streamed to you as you play - right? They can't really fix that in 10 seconds because it's a core game design issue.

Good news is that there won't be a ton of imitators since Blizzard struggled so much, but D3 can't get rid of it easily (or without D2 style duping).

You might as well say that the solution to offline mode in WoW is extremely easy. Everything about D3 is online at a fundamental level.

Not my fault. I consider it a design flaw.

At least someone over at blizzard still realizes this game is online and needing support. I'm completely baffled by the last few weeks of radio silence from the dev team.

Their interaction seems to be inconsistent over time, so there's probably not much to be read into it.

However, there are a couple "news" sites that will take everything they say and straight-up lie about it to make a damning headline. Combined with a downright hostile community, and it's a wonder they still say anything at all.

I'm as big a fanboy as anyone else but the silence is deafening at this point.

What do you expect them to say?

Yep, still working on 1.0.4 and 1.1.0.

It didn't work - I died like 3 times last night to mobs on Nightmare because of lag.

I'm pretty sure it's not just him. Forums everywhere are toxic at just the mention of D3, with ShackNews being one of the more civilized places. I'd say a significant portion of the D3 population has moved on to the "Pay-to-Hate" phase of the D3 release.

you mean your $60 has already been collected? If this was a subscription based game i'd be a lot more indignant that they fix stuff. But the sale is over, anything that they do now to support the game is gravy.

I had more fun with D3 on launch than I did with D2. It lasted longer for me anyway. In D2, I just ended up save game hacking and hex editing my character and shit within the first weekend which ruined it. D3 lasted me like 6~ weeks, and I fully intend to come back to it once 1.0.4 is in.

so some interim netcode and AH tweaks? I wonder when 1.0.4 is gonna be out?

I also wonder if they will have to hasten the release of expansions and more content...
