There's a new 10mb Windows 2000 driver for the Voodoo 5 AGP/PCI on 3dfxgamers.com. These are unsupported so if you PC blows up, tough luck. Also there are new Voodoo3 2000/3000 AGP/PCI Win2k beta drivers.

">>>I understand tdfx will be coming out with voodoo 5 drivers for download. I hear they will make a big difference? Anyone know anything about?

Sit down. This may make you ill. I have a 5500. The V5 drivers are on the cd. The only problem is, they're not the drivers that the automated installation process loads for the card.

In order to load the right drivers, you have to do a "Have Disk" and point to the correct directory on the Voodoo cd. This assumes, of course, that you first realize that *something* must be wrong with the drivers that are loaded automatically.

Before the correct drivers are loaded, Control Panel identifies the board as a "Voodoo series device". Once the correct drivers are installed, the card is correctly identified as "Voodoo 5500".

The performance difference is like night and day. The board will blow you away once the right drivers are loaded.

This means that probably 90% of all users, including online and magazine reviewers, are using neutered drivers in evaluating the board.

That this was not caught, even after the recall, is terrifying.

Can't anyone at 3Dfx play this game?
