Dawnguard, the first expansion pack for Skyrim, is now available on PC. You can buy it on Steam for $19.99. For more on the expansion, you may want to read Steve's field report. He concludes that "Dawnguard satisfies despite its shortcomings."

But what about the PS3 version? An update from Bethesda reveals that the team is not happy with how development on the PS3 version is progressing.

We are not satisfied yet with Dawnguard's performance on the PS3. We would like for everyone to have a chance to play Dawnguard, but we aren't going to release it for PS3 knowing that some people's experience in Skyrim will be worse. We do everything we can to have our content available to all; from our free updates, to user mods, to paid DLC. We're as disappointed as our fans when that isn't the case, but we'll continue to push for that reality.

The company was repeatedly criticized for the poor performance of its Fallout DLC on PS3. It looks as though Bethesda is opting to delay the release, instead of releasing buggy content. Commendable, perhaps, but PS3 players are sure to be peeved either way.

Holy shit, that wasn't expected. Did they give any hint before that it was coming out very soon?

wow $20? I haven't read anything about this. It is a fairly large expansion?

The early xbox360 reviews suggested not a large expansion (if you want to compare it to Shivering Isles and the likes) and that it is incredibly buggy and is not worth the $20.

I personally want this, but I'd wait until it is more to my personal price liking (under $10?) :)

My thoughts exactly. If it was 10 I would've already bought it, but for 20 it needs to be rather substantial and it doesn't sound like it is.

So either $2/hour or $1/hour depending on how long you stretch it out...Milking it just a bit, it feels like.

most full-priced games don't even come close to $2/hour

Still hard to justify when one gets 200 hours out of the original $60 game without dlc.

is this really how you justify spending on games?

Like how choosing sides in Skyrim is completely different.

is this just some insubstantial piece of shit? no one's really said anything about it so that would be my guess

cool- but I might wait till it's on sale. $20 is more than I'd want to spend for a short expansion.

Will wait for a price-drop. It does look pretty good though.

^ a lot of you have a weirdly deflated sense of the value of things. I can't help but wonder if there is a kernel of truth in EA's comments about Steam sales.
