The poor quality of the last Medal of Honor game is fueling apathy in the upcoming Medal of Honor Warfighter, an analyst said in a report released in anticipation of a Q1 earning update from publisher Electronic Arts later today.

Doug Creutz, an analyst who covers video game companies for Cowen & Company, dropped his sales estimates for the upcoming Medal of Honor title from 2.3 million units to 1.4 million. "This is based on a very soft performance since E3 in Amazon's top-selling game rankings compared to other recent titles," he wrote. "We think the most likely culprit for apparent gamer disinterest is the poor quality of the last 'Medal of Honor' game in 2010."

Creutz is also down on Star Wars: The Old Republic, expecting subscriber numbers to drop from 1 million to around 500,000 for the current fiscal year "due to continued poor server density trends." EA had said the MMO is "not a top 5 game" for the company, and has been examining a free-to-play model for the game.

We will know more about EA's situation on their earnings call this afternoon.

Me too I don't get the hate for the last MoH game. I thought the SP was really good. The part where you have to hold up in that little hut in the mountains was way intense

I also agree. The campaign was pretty good aside from some of the more obvious scripted stuff. The multiplayer was a lot of fun in my experience, I had a ton of fun with it.

This is the most intelligent and thought provoking post I've seen in a good long time. Too bad that nobody at either company will ever see it.

What was so bad about the last one? Never played it but only because I think it was sandwiched between some other major releases...can't remember.

The MP was like a poor man's BFBC2. The singleplayer was alright though, a little less interesting than a CoD storyline, but still ok.

The MP was SO bad. You could easily anticipate the spawn points so it led to insane spawn camping when one team had an advantage. The guns/classes were also insanely unbalanced - after a while everyone realized that playing sniper was the best if you were a decent player.

It's competing for the same space (same customers, too) as CoD and Battlefield franchises. Tearing people away from those two is no small task.

They released it, patched it once, never released DLC they talked about and pretty much abandoned it... then they wonder why people don't want to give them another $60? Assholes.

Just watched a trailer - it looks almost identical to Battlefield 3, but without the vehicles. It'd be interesting to see both games played side by side to compare the visuals.

Game felt floaty. Guns didnt have a "kick" to them. Felt lasery pew pee with walls of enemies. Just didnt feel polished.

Not going to get it until bargain bin unless something magical happens

No shit Sherlock. You make a crappy game which managed to disappoint a lot of people despite only moderate expectations and then you're surprised when people won't fall for the same crap twice within two years?

I think that guys wrong. That game was pretty well made I thought. It obviously didn't catch on but the multiplayer was by Dice and I had a lot of fun with it. I think people aren't excited about Warfighter because its more of the same. We need to some some new guns / mechanics / settings / something to differentiate.

Battlefield 3 sucked too, so all the more likelihood that MoH will suck. Sucking is the DICE way nowadays.

i know; i long for the days of hoofin' it a half mile only to be killed by a sniper or jet. and falling through world geometry. and a cone of fire so unpredictable it made every assault rifle feel worse than a shotgun at range.

And to think that when the first CoD came out it was received with a lot of praise because of MoH was just becoming more of the safe. That was what, 10 years ago? Even CoD is more of the same, MoH is more of the same times²!

I have been in a party with some one who is playing, and from what I heard, it seems to be spawn camping extravaganza. He was telling me that no body goes for the objectives because if you do, you get sniped. He had also told me he had stop trying for two reason. First, because he would die every time when he tried to. Second, he wasn't really given a chance half the time he wasn't even allowed to take one step before he would die after he spawned and the other half he would get 2 steps in and then get blown up by a rocket. When he gets really lucky he goes to a place to hide so he won't get shot after he spawns.
